  3. Provide an individual bank account or expect you to transfer immediately for a deposit down i.e., booking fee before the job begins.
  4. Promise to come as time stated
  5. The individual didn’t turn up at all to pick up the waste, neither is he picking up your phone calls.
  6. Scamming is also by definition: illegal dumping.

Federal Territory Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCORP), Director, Ummi Kalthum Shuib disclosed that in 2021, there are 32 illegal dumping hotspots, while in 2022 alone there are 42 illegal dumping hotspots in and around Kuala Lumpur. Over 326 tonnes were disposed illegally in Kuala Lumpur alone.

In February 2023, Local Government Development Ministry (KPKT) Minister Nga Kor Ming determined to demolish and clean up 100 illegal dumpsites in his first 100 days in office of the Unity government and has applied for remote sensing (space technology) with Malaysian Space Agency (MYSA) to track the locations throughout the country.

For those found to be dumping illegally, maybe charge under section 71(1) of the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007 (Act 672) that carries a minimum fine of RM10,000 and maximum of RM100,000 or a jail term of six months to five years.

According to the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007 (Act 672) Section 47(1), “Any person who produces or generates scheduled waste, shall ensure that the scheduled waste is treated and disposed of in a proper and sustainable manner”.

This means that clients are responsible for ensuring that their waste is disposed of properly and sustainably, and they can be held legally accountable if their waste contractor is found to be dumping illegally. This responsibility extends to ensuring that the waste contractor they choose is licensed and registered under the relevant authorities, such as the Department of Environment (DOE) or the National Solid Waste Management Department (NSWMD).

In addition, under Section 47(2) of the Act 672, any person found to be in breach of Section 47(1), including clients who choose illegal waste contractors, can be fined up to RM 100,000 or face imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years, or both.

Therefore, it is important for clients to take responsibility for their waste management processes, choose reputable and reliable waste contractors, and ensure that their waste is disposed of properly and sustainably to avoid legal consequences.
